Description
Join us for a FAFSA Information Session led by Palm Beach State College’s Financial Aid team. During this session, you’ll receive step-by-step guidance on completing the FAFSA, learn what documents you need, understand the types of financial aid available, and get support with your next steps after submitting your application.
This is a great opportunity to get your questions answered and feel confident about your financial aid process.
Questions & Answers
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the form used to determine your eligibility for federal, state, and institutional financial aid. This includes grants, loans, work-study, and some scholarships.
No. U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens can complete the FAFSA. Eligible non-citizens include permanent residents (Green Card holders) and certain visa or protected status categories. Students who are not eligible for federal aid may still qualify for other funding or institutional programs.
Dependency status is determined by the FAFSA based on federal criteria. You are considered independent if you meet at least one requirement, such as being 24 or older, married, a veteran, a graduate student, having dependents, or other qualifying circumstances.
If you do not meet any independent criteria, you are considered dependent and must include parent information.
The FAFSA uses prior-prior year tax information. For example:
2025–2026 FAFSA uses 2023 tax informationTax data is typically transferred automatically using the IRS Direct Data Exchange (DDX).
Every contributor on the FAFSA needs their own FSA ID.A “contributor” is anyone whose financial information is required on the FAFSA, such as:
the student
one or both parents (for dependent students), or
the spouse (for married students). Each contributor must create their own FSA ID using their own email and phone number.
Verification is a process where the Department of Education or PBSC asks for documentation to confirm the accuracy of your FAFSA information.
Being selected does not mean anything is wrong, some students are chosen randomly. You will need to submit requested documents through your PBSC Workday account to complete the process.
You can check the status in your Workday account under your Finance section.
